CONCEPT
WAVE IN
TIMBER
A dynamic coastal pavilion designed for Plaza del Mar in Barceloneta, adapting to marine conditions through form and material. The design draws from wave motion — translating hand-drawn breaking wave concepts into an asymmetric roofline with continuously varying heights.
The structure employs a bi-directional waffle grid system, fabricated from 3mm polywood using CNC machining. Form-finding in Kangaroo Physics and parameterized control via Graph Mapper allowed the wave amplitude and membrane tension to be tuned precisely to the coastal environment.
